Freedom

As a first-generation American, my parents fled Castro’s Communism in 1961. Growing up, my parents and grandparents longed to return home, often saying, “Aprende Castellano,” because one day we’ll go back, and you’ll need to assimilate into Cuban society. But that dream never came true because once freedom is gone, it’s gone.

    3. On abortion, I authored this op-ed in 2022.  I am for freedom of choice and I am pro-life too.  I just don’t believe the government should be dictating choice because the Constitution already gives you freedom of choice and free will. I am not banning abortion. #RHEA

Ever been caught in a media whirlwind? Let me take you back to 2022, when I ran against Meg Froelich as a Republican candidate. I decided to stir things up a bit and bait the media and Meg with a cheeky tweet. Little did I know, it would snowball into something much bigger.

Navigating the Media Storm: A Lesson in Responsible Communication

Diving into the Media Maelstrom

I twisted Meg’s words like a dyslexic pro, hoping to engage her in a discussion over the teachers union and literacy rates. But the media? They focused solely on the wordplay, labeling me as a racist.

Unveiling the True Story Behind the Headlines

Let’s clarify: my aim wasn’t to promote racism or discrimination. I wanted to start a meaningful conversation about critical issues affecting our community. Unfortunately, the media’s portrayal overshadowed this intention.

It was a risky move, and I take full responsibility for its consequences. However, it’s crucial to understand the context behind the tweet and the broader conversation it aimed to spark.

Moving forward, I’m committed to engaging in constructive dialogue and addressing important issues facing our district. I understand the power of words and the need for responsible communication. I’ll strive to ensure that my messages are clear, respectful, and focused on the real issues at hand.

Moving Forward with Clarity and Purpose

In conclusion, the media storm taught me a valuable lesson: words matter, and context is key. Despite the negative coverage, my goal remains unchanged: to advocate for our community and spark meaningful conversations. Let’s move forward with clarity, understanding, and a commitment to real change.
