God’s Plan and My Passion
“God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”… As you know, I love reading, writing, and learning, and above all, I love sharing my ideas about education with the world. This is why I blog. My question to you is this: If God wants us to be saved and come to that knowledge and truth, then a strong foundation in grammar is at the heart of what God wants for us.
I have a lot of useful knowledge to share about our education, and I’ve gained valuable perspectives from reading Education Week, which has kept me informed about progressive ideas and education reform. The alarming literacy rates are closely tied to the neglect of teaching grammar, an essential component for children to decode what they read. It frustrates me when politicians like Betsy Devos are discredited for their efforts.
Recently, I read a commentary on Education Week with the title “Education Reform has Ended” by Van Schoales, which caught my attention. However, I believe this opinion is flawed. True reform starts with teachers, parents, and community leaders at the grassroots level, not from the top down. Over the past century, we have witnessed both positive and negative reforms in education. One major drawback is that our children often lack the preparation needed for the real world.
In Denver, a mere 32% of students are proficient readers, and among them, only 25% of Hispanics demonstrate proficiency. What that means is that over half of the kids in Denver aren’t literate in reading.
In America, the progressive movement has been a pervasive force, making changes to well-established methods of learning that have traditionally worked since the middle ages. It is this movement that continues to make America less than great. This movement is responsible for many things – both good and bad, but more bad than good – like eliminating our liberal tradition to unjustified extremes. The liberal progressive movement is the reason we are leaving kids behind.
In the early years, the goal was to offer alternatives to liberal arts training for those not pursuing college. Today, we are training kids on practical subjects and less on formal modes of instruction, a key factor in our declining literacy rates.
Moving forward, we should not dwell on the lack of federal government support in education. Instead, we need to work collaboratively with teachers, students, parents, and leaders to implement effective changes that don’t leave economically disadvantaged students behind.
In brief, when you host a book party with me, I will share ideas and ways that YOU, the parent, can help your kids at home, along with sharing some of our books and allowing you, if you want and need, to shop for books. We do have the very best children’s books. Our authors and illustrators are unparalleled in the quality of their writing. And kids really do want to read our books.
In conclusion, I invite you to book a mediation session with me. During these sessions, I’ll share valuable ideas to help resolve conflicts and ensure the best possible outcome for your children within the legal framework. Our mediation services offer exceptional support, providing a cost-effective, stress-reducing alternative for navigating legal disputes. I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your support and the opportunity to serve you.
Warm regards,
