Serving Jesus with Purpose: Embracing God-Given Skills and Temperament
Dear Friends,
In a world filled with hustle and bustle, it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of daily life. We often find ourselves striving for success, chasing dreams, and seeking fulfillment in various ways. But amidst the noise and distractions, there’s a higher calling – a purpose that transcends worldly desires and ambitions. For me, that purpose is serving Jesus with everything I do.
You see, I believe that we are all uniquely created by God, each endowed with a set of skills, temperaments, and a personality that is entirely our own. These attributes are not random; they are divine gifts designed for a specific purpose – to glorify God and advance His kingdom.
Embracing God-Given Skills
One of the first steps in serving Jesus with purpose is recognizing and embracing the skills that God has given us. These skills may manifest in various forms – from artistic talents to problem-solving abilities, from leadership qualities to the gift of compassion. They are not to be taken lightly but nurtured and developed to their fullest potential.
For me, it was a love for conflict resolution and a passion for Constitutional and immigration law that guided my journey. These skills, which I believe are God-given, have led me to a career in mediation and paralegal work. By using these skills to help others resolve conflicts and navigate complex legal matters, I am serving Jesus in a way that aligns with my unique abilities.
Embracing Temperament and Personality
In addition to skills, God has also equipped us with specific temperaments and personalities. Some of us may be naturally outgoing and extroverted, while others are introverted and reflective. Some are detail-oriented, while others focus on the big picture. God made each of us this way for a reason.
Personally, I’ve been blessed with a combination of Sanguine, Choleric, and Phlegmatic temperaments. These traits have played a significant role in my journey of serving others and leading them closer to Heaven. My Sanguine nature allows me to connect with people on a personal and empathetic level, my Choleric side drives me to take action and lead, and my Phlegmatic tendencies provide me with patience and understanding.
Aligning with God’s Will
Serving Jesus with purpose means aligning our skills, temperaments, and personalities with God’s will. It involves seeking His guidance and direction in all that we do. It means using our unique attributes to bring about positive change in the lives of others and to reflect God’s love and grace.
As I continue on my journey of faith and service, I’m reminded of the words from Romans 12:6-8 (NIV): “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
A Call to Action
I encourage you to reflect on your own God-given skills, temperaments, and personality traits. Consider how you can use these attributes to serve Jesus with purpose in your own life. Whether you’re a teacher, a healthcare worker, an artist, or any other profession, there is a way to align your unique qualities with God’s will.
Let us remember that our purpose is not defined by worldly success or recognition but by our faithful service to Jesus Christ. As we use our God-given attributes to make a positive impact on the world, we are fulfilling our divine calling and bringing honor to the One who created us in His image.
In all that you do, may you find joy and fulfillment in serving Jesus with purpose.
With love and faith,
Marla Fernandez
