Unlocking the Art of Teaching Reading: A Simple Two-Step Guide for School Choice
So, you’re interested in school choice, right? Well, I’ve got some valuable advice for you.
You may not know this, but I took it upon myself to learn how to read proficiently, and now I’m helping my son on his reading journey. Before we dive into the world of amazing books, let’s address the big question: How exactly do you do it?
Do you need access to top-notch schools? Absolutely not.
When you first embark on the journey of teaching your child, you might find yourself overwhelmed by the myriad curriculum choices, the cost of some books, and the endless debates over what you should or shouldn’t use. But let me tell you, dwelling on these concerns is a waste of time. My homeschooling journey was once a chaotic mess, consisting of preschool prep videos, trips to the local gym, and outings around town – and nothing more.
Do you require an expensive curriculum to teach reading? Nope, not at all – at least not initially.
When I started homeschooling, I had no concrete plans regarding what I would teach. In fact, I didn’t create a curriculum until my son turned six.
Do you need to be an expert? Again, the answer is a resounding no.
And here’s the kicker: I can prove it.
How, you ask?
Well, it’s a simple two-step process – yes, you read that right, just two steps. I firmly believe that anyone, including you, can follow this process, even if you haven’t quite figured out all the details yet or if you’ve never taught before.
So, here’s what I want you to do. Watch this video until the very end, where Peter Usborne delves into the science of reading and provides insights into how children learn to read. Most importantly, it will show you how to start teaching phonics.
A word of caution: while the process is simple, it’s not necessarily easy. So be sure to watch the entire seven-minute video (there’s a reading series below it). You can also find it on my website in the Very First Reading series.
Once you’ve finished watching the video, head over to my website and order this series. And don’t forget, this is a community event, so take a moment to introduce yourself in the comments section below the video.
Talk to you soon,
Marla
